Magnus Archives time lets goooo! Todays episodes are 13: Alone, 14: Piecemeal, skipped 15: Lost John's Cave (once is enough thanks), 16: Arachnophobia, 17: The Bone Turner's Tale, 18: The Man Upstairs, 19: Confession
Eps 1-12
Eps 21-28 here
Alone
oh shit! i forgot we brought in new voices, what a fun surprise, courtesy of my garbo memory XD
ugh god this one is awful i love it. the perfect blend of believable bleeding into incredible
note for future self: i vaguely remember the Lucas family being important? but it didnt ping! my memory the same way Jared Key did
Piecemeal
Not much to say on this one. Its weird, but not a particular fear of mine, and nothing jumped out at me as "this is a clue!"
Lost John's Cave
now this one IS a big fear of mine and I almost didnt make it through my first listen. Im gonna have to rely on yall to refresh my memory on anything of particular import
Arachnophobia
Ghost spider! Ghost spider! Ghost spider! XD I remember thinking this was a really twist on the old standby of "ick! spider"
This also feels like a good time to rack my brain a lil more for what i remember from my first listening attempt, since its starting to come back
The "monsters": I believe they have a standardized naming convention, like, each fear fits into a domain. Piecemeal reminded me one is called like Meat or something, of course Squirm is bugs or whatever, and that Lady in Red is ...possessed by it? Something about an Avatar, and thats what happens to Jon in the end (hence all the eyes on him in fanart (not to be confused with Nightvale Cecil of the eldritch unknowableness )(i s2g these fandoms absolutely overlap and blend in my poor lil brain)(is that enough parenthesis to close everything? idk n idc))
Martin: this is wildly specific to me and my interests, but he reminds of Adachi from Persona 4 - both in being comedically inept AND in it being a ruse to hide something. well see if im right
Tumblr media
The Bone Turners Tale:
Oh! I think this was the other one wife had me listen to on that first roadtrip!
Johnny! Push pause you silly goose! I love his irritation though, almost like he reads the statements with emotion on purpose, like an actor trying out a monologue, and hes embarrassed to be caught :P
The Man Upstairs
Ugh, I remember being *so proud* of myself for connecting the dots between this one and Do Not Open, only for my wife to remind me that no one lived in that flat aside from the guy with the box. Oh well XD
Tumblr media
Confession
fun fact: this one is linked forever in my mind with Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Vens Snow White arc. I couldnt tell you what I was playing listening to the other eps, but this one has a mental sountrack of Snow White going "oh dear!" as her dumb ass runs into trouble
Tumblr media
hey! now this one does connect some dots! this is why i remembered the fractal episode being bigger than it was. Flagging this for a relisten when i get more pieces
Flag: House on Hilltop Rd. Current relevant episodes: 8 Burned Out, 19 Confession
Desecrated Host
Not much to add except that this ep goes with the Sleeping Beauty throne room :P

Day 22. February 20, 2020. Kaikōura to Akaroa to Leithfield. 410km. 4932km total = 3065 miles.
Today the clouds were back but no rain was in the forecast so we went down the hill into town and I ordered a cappuccino and a lemon blueberry muffin to start the day at Pot Belly bakery. We chatted a little back at the hotel with a crew of 6 Harley folks from Wellington on 3 bikes. They were planning a New Orleans to Vero ride in October so we made a few suggestions. Made friends with a gigantic tame rabbit at the hotel before riding out around 9. It was a straight shot down the coast about 4 hours on the main Hwy 1 (I-95 equivalent) but this main artery has lots of construction, flag men stops, cattle on the road! Even in Christchurch there are red lights and lots of traffic circles. We had heard about the beauty of the Akaroa peninsula just SE of CHC and though it made for a big day, we rode through wine country and lots of farmland to slip into moderate traffic through CHC. Hard to believe this is the last day! As we venture onto the peninsula the road empties and we are chasing the sunshine. Cloudy until arriving here, the sun and colors emboldened by its rays lit up our windy curves along the coast. Apparently cruise ships pull into Akaroa for the views and beauty. A couple more construction zones and a nice flag man who let us roar up the hillside to catch up with the recently dismissed line of waiting cars and trucks. The last 10kms toward Akaroa scales the scenic mountains as we intersected with the well known Summit Rd. Unfortunately this road took us to the eastern bays of the peninsula in the opposite direction from where we needed to return our bikes back in Leithfield. As it was, our expected return was around 3PM today and we didn't have time to explore Summit Rd. today. We were literally arrested by the view as we rounded the corner and saw the view at Hilltop Tavern. We pulled in as if ensnared and parked by another biker who was equally spellbound. Top pic above. We lounged and I enjoyed a salmon pizza (pic) and a Coke but mostly the view which is saying something because the pizza was excellent! A fairly tame sheep made laps along the fence line on 6" of flattened earth munching the numerous tufts of grass and enjoying the occasional scratching by diners. Opportunistic sparrows awaited your lack of attention to claim any unattended food. It was around 68° and just a great way to wrap up the ride.
The cruise back to Leithfield was smooth, in and out of the traffic circles as the reality of the trip's end hits. What an adventure. What a beautiful country. Easy to enjoy, geared for tourism, US dollar is strong here but sort of a long ride to get here. Worth it if you can make it happen! No problems checking in the bike and Kiwi (Carrie) was kind enough to again ferry us back to town, this time to the brand new Novotel at the airport. It wasn't even open when I booked it 5 months ago. It is a primo Novotel. We drove past the US Antarctic center where most all flights to and from our base originate. Carrie said she thought it was actually considered US soil, a la Normandy. There were 4 USAF C-130 aircraft with their newfangled curves props on the tarmac and some other jet. We also enjoyed riding there with our new Norwegian friend Per, who returned his bike and was also booked at the appropriately named Novotel. My room was so nice. Soundproof glass in a corner with views on two sides and seriously less than 200 yards to both the control tower and the Emirates A380 loading up with passengers. I went to the airport to do a little shopping since I didn't think they would be open at 4AM the next morning (wrong). Went back and met Ted and Per at the bar to enjoy the view and watch the world's largest commercial aircraft lumber down the strip and lift off surprisingly quickly. Felt like a little kid. ✈️ 😳 A spectacular dinner for me included dumplings followed by rack of lamb, garlic mashed, Caesar salad. Really a great last dinner in this fine land weirdly punctuated by the unexplained disappearance of our server, Imogen. Halfway through the meal we noticed she wasn't around. After a bit we asked other servers to have her come by, only to be met with shrugs that they didn't know where she had gone. Never found while we were there! 🤷‍♂️ A relatively early night since alarms were set for 3:30. Wrapping this now at the airport all checked in waiting for first leg to Sydney. Then on to LA, somehow landing before I left due to the date line weirdness and then on home to ATL. Glad to be done writing, what a commitment from folks who do it daily but also glad to have followed through and captured just some of the events, feelings and silly things from this journey. Great place to ride! Peace, out. ✌️ 🏍 🇳🇿 🇺🇸
PS. Back in ATL now. Though 30 hours of traveling couldn't have gone smoother. If you are one of the folks reading this along the way. Thanks for making the time to share my NZ adventure with me as it unfolded. Comfort class with an extra seat made a nice difference on the 13 hour leg from SYD to LAX. Flew right over the harbor and got good shots of town and the opera house. Nice to be home, too. Until the next adventure. ... 🇳🇴

Friday 12 May 1837
6 ½
11 50/..
Fine but dull morning – out at 7 25 (A-‘s door locked so did not see her) – sometime walking to John in the stable – he gave me another letter from his son Joseph saying he hoped I would give him a character – yes! the best I could – but on seeing the letter in the boy’s own handwriting I gave it back unopened saying that the person he was going to live with would write for his character – that I could not do with being pothered with more letters from Joseph himself – this would be the 3rd – no! said John only the 2nd – said I had one the other night by the post which I had burnt – quite determined to have nothing more to do with the boy – poor John, it seems, knew nothing of the letter the other night – I said I would give no advice – but where I in the boy’s place or rather young man’s I would enlist for a soldier rather than sit over the fire setting cards at home – then at 8 10 with Mr. Gray and Robert Mann and Jack Green making a beginning of the rough walling in front of the Lodge gateway – Mr. G- came in at 9 ¼ and I at 9 ½ - A- wrong evidently as Mr. Gray would easily see what a temper she has luckily I do not trouble myself much about it  we may travel together for a while but how can I ever do with her in society a vulgar pride is at the bottom of it the beautifying of poor old Shibden may eclipse Cliff Hill she is jealous of her authority or rather of an importance which she knows not how to support I must to the best I can query if her aunt dies will she not be got rid of? breakfast in about ½ hour – Rain came on before 8 and continued with every prospect of a thoroughly rainy day – yet A- as it was fixed yesterday for Mr. G- to go today, would have him go so he was off on leaving the breakfast table about 10 – he to walk par preference –A- to ride and overtake him – wrote the above of today, and note to ‘Mr. Adam Esquire’ to say I could not better express myself than in his own words (quoted them) that I should be glad to give up the trust to new trustees appointed by chancery – not my intention to sign the declaration of trust proposed – intended desiring Messrs. Hammersley to invest the money in my name in trust for the infant – sorry Mr. and Mrs. Graham were not satisfied with this – sent off John Booth with note between 11 and 12 and to get brandy [treach] and butter for cow-medicine according to his prescribing – writing (quite different from the rough draft written last night) and copying my note and writing all  the above of today till 11 20 then out – with the gardener + 4 getting up a few fine hollies from the holly clumps in Charles Howarth’s little field above his house – then at Listerwick pit with Holt and Joseph Mann – walked with the former along the wheat field to the Lodge – told him to let the Incline Platform – the men gone to their dinner – he would call at Robert Mann’s in passing – will be here again on Monday afternoon – on leaving H- walked by the Stump X Inn (incessant rain all the while – all the morning and afternoon till between 3 and 4) to Staups and a little on the Salterley road and then up past Staups, and past the Spiggs pits a considerable way forwards up the hill, following the hollies – thinking if there were any I could buy and bring away – back at the Lodge about 1 10 Robert Mann and Jack Green there clearing away the land black scale left there on sinking the well – by and by came the gardener + 4 and Mark Hepworth and the hollies – Mark made up spare time with carting from Hipperholme quarry rag footings for Laundry court and a load of rag for near the Lodge – not to come tomorrow – Frank carting Laundry court wall footings from Hipperholme quarry, and Zebedee carted rail posts for Charles and James Howarth and lad + 4 of Joseph Mann’s men who were digging holes all today as yesterday but only 2 of JM-‘s men on Wednesday – stood at the Lodge till 6 when Benjamin Fletcher came about Hilltop house and things that wanted doing there – could not get them plasterers to get on with their work – promised to go on Monday and take Booth and Joseph Mann – the coach house flagging finished yesterday – the loop-hole window taken out today and the copying put on the hay place wall – with Bligh planning about shutting in the coach house against the passage thro’ the barn till 7 ¼ - A- and Mr. Gray had returned about 10 minutes before – dressed dinner at 7 ¾ - A- went upstairs immediately from the dinner table – I made coffee and read the paper and talked to Mr. Gray about coach house etc. till came upstairs at 10 50 at which hour F41° - very rainy day (fine growing rain) from about 8 am to about 4pm or later – fair in the evening

Tsilivi Beach Zakynthos & Tsilivi Town Travel Guide
Tsilivi Beach and Tsilivi Town is one of the best areas to stay in Zakynthos for sure. It has a stunning beach, some great restaurants and plenty of accommodation options. It’s a good option for a place to stay on the east coast of Zakynthos, or you can just pop in for a day.
As we stayed in nearby Psarou, we came to the beach here quite often and even though it lost its Blue Flag status for cleanliness and ecological awareness in 2018, it’s still a clean beach with perfectly clear water and nice pebbly sand.
About Tsilivi Beach
Also commonly referred to as Planos, this was one of our favourite stretches of sand in Zakynthos. It’s a beautiful, wide beach with plenty of restaurants and things to do nearby. I was really surprised to hear that it lost its Blue Flag status, but when we were there it was after it had lost the award and it still looked incredibly clean to me.

Where is Tsilivi Beach?
Tsilivi is located smack dab in the center of the eastern coast of Zakynthos with Zante Town to the south and Alykes to the north. It’s also very close (almost walking distance) to nearby Psarou Beach where we stayed.
Zakynthos Island itself is located in the Ionian Sea in western Greece. It’s a small island of just 405 kilometres² (156 miles²), but it’s a popular tourist destination in the summer months. It’s around 20 kilometres west of mainland Greece and about 250 kilometres west of the capital of Athens.
Other Popular Places in Zakynthos
Gerakas Beach
Navagio Beach
Laganas Beach
Zante Town
Banana Beach
Porto Azzuro
Porto Limnionas
Keri
Alykes
Xigia Beach
Psarou Beach
How To Get To Tsilivi Beach
The best way to get to Tsilivi Beach (and to all of the places to visit in Zakynthos) is to rent your own car. Prices start at just €15 per day and it’s really worth it to have the freedom to explore the island at your own pace.
Alternatively, if you’re staying in Zante town or one of the other beach towns on the east coast, you could rent a boat and take it around the many different coves on the west side of Zakynthos before arriving in Tsilivi.
Lastly, there are some public transport options to get you to Tsilivi Beach but the buses in Zakynthos don’t run that often and all of them start in Zante Town and make their rounds from there. You’ll have to ask your hotel or apartment for the bus times as they change based on season and they’re not often posted. Here is the route:
Argassi – Xirokastelo – Vassilikos – Porto Roma – Tsilivi – Planos – Tragaki – Kipseli – Alykanas – Alykes – Katastari – Orthonies – Anafonitria – Volimes – Exo Hora – Kambi – Agios Leon – Agios Nikolaos – Machairado – Galaro – Gyri – Keri – Agalas – Lithakia – Laganas.
Again, the buses aren’t that reliable which is why we recommend hiring your own car.

Best Time To Visit Tsilivi Beach Zakynthos
The Best Time of Day To Visit Tsilivi Beach
The best time of day to visit Tsilivi Beach is in the middle of the day between 11 am and 2 pm when the sun is directly overhead and the sand is being illuminated from below. Alternatively, sunset is a good time to come here, though you’re facing east so you won’t see it hit the water.
The Best Time Of Year to Visit Tsilivi Beach
The best time to visit Greece is between the months of March and November, but for a beach holiday you’ll want to stick to April to September when the sea is still warm enough to swim.
We love to visit Zakynthos in May (or September) as there are fewer tourists at that time but the weather is sunny and the sea is warm enough for a brisk dip.
The Type of Sand on Tsilivi Beach
The sand here is golden, squeaky clean,  and soft to walk on. Many beaches on Zakynthos Island and around the Mediterranean are pebbly, making it uncomfortable to walk around in bare feet, but not Tsilivi.
There is a gradual drop into the ocean so it’s a great place for shallow water sports like frisbee, and also a good place for families. The water is almost always calm as it’s in a relatively secluded bay.
Facilities on Tsilivi Beach
There are plenty of facilities on Tsilivi Beach Zakynthos to make you comfortable. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent from €7 per day for two sunbeds and an umbrella. There are also some watersports like windsurfing, water skiing, banana, pedaloes, jet skiing, and paragliding.
There are some equipment rental places on the beach as well and plenty of restaurants. Many of the restaurants also have sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, as well as toilets. Some of them also have beach showers.
Where To Stay Near Tsilivi Beach
There are quite a few options for hotels, guest houses, villas, apartments and resorts around Tsilivi Beach. There are also some nearby beaches like Buka Beach, Gaidaros Beach and Belussi Beach, all of which have their own accommodation options and are within walking distance.
Here are the best hotel and apartment options near Tsilivi Beach:

Best Restaurants Near Tsilivi Beach
While there are a lot of great restaurants right on Tsilivi Beach, you’ll notice that the first two on this list are out of town. That’s because if you have a car, these places are worth the 10-minute drive from Tsilivi to eat at, but I’ve also included some right on the sand.
Taverna Psarou
Tumblr media
Unnamed Road, Psarou 291 00, Greece ★ 4.4/5 (36 Reviews)
Tumblr media
Mains from €8
If you don’t mind the 10-minute drive from Tsilivi, then don’t miss this place. There’s nothing like watching the sunset over Zakaynthos while drinking a delicious glass of wine and listening to the Ionian Sea lap the sand just a few feet away. This was one of the best restaurants in Zakynthos that we went to and in our opinion, having sunset dinner here is one of the best things to do on the island as well.
Lofos Restaurant
Tumblr media
Unnamed Rd, Meso Gerakari 291 00, Greece ★ 4.7/5 (313 Reviews)
Tumblr media
Mains from €7
Again, you’ll have to get in the car and drive here from Tsilivi Beach (about 10 minutes), but it’s worth it! This is without a doubt our favourite little taverna in Zakynthos. The view from the hilltop here is spectacular and the food and service is amazing as well.
Benikos Greek Gourmet Taverna
Tumblr media
Planos 291 00, Greece ★ 4.7/5 (351 Reviews)
Tumblr media
Mains from €7
This is easily one of the most popular taverns in Tsilivi Town. Set a couple of blocks back from the beach,  this family-run place has great service, excellent food and a nice cozy feel. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and the wait staff will help you order the freshest seafood on the menu.
Taverna by the Sea Paradeisos
Tumblr media
Zakynthos 291 00, Greece ★ 4.6/5 (389 Reviews)
Tumblr media
Mains from €8.50
With tables set on a patio overlooking the beach, this is one of the best beach restaurants in Tsilivi Beach Zakynthos. Sit here and gaze out over the sea towards the island of Kefalonia while sipping a glass of red wine and eating delicious Greek food. You can’t beat this place for value and quality in Tsilivi town.
Should You Go To Tsilivi Beach?
Tsilivi Beach is not as busy as it’s cousins further south but has enough going on to keep you here for a few days. Whether you visit Tsilivi Beach as a stop on a tour around the island or you choose to rent an apartment here and base yourself here to explore Zakynthos, you won’t be disappointed.
Soft golden sand, great restaurants, plenty of water activities and a lot of accommodation options make this one of the best areas on the island of Zakynthos.

Todays Archive Dive starts with Ep 51: High Pressure, and continues with 52: Exceptional Risk, 53: Crusader, 54: Still Life, 55 Pest Control, 56 Children of the Night, 57: Personal Space, 58: Trail Rations, and finishes with 59: Recluse
High Pressure
Ick. Another one I was loathe to relisten to (much like Lost Cave, which I STILL havent relistened to). I haaaaaate horror based in physical helplessness and isolation. The Vast and Alone are definitely my biggest Fears. The bugs and disease are a normal amount "This could harm me" fears for me, the Meat is just... odd. The Not!Copiers are kinda freaky but cool, but honestly I live with those and the watched feeling all the time as is. It might have gotten me once upon a time, but now im pretty resigned to the fact that my senses are just not super reliable. The longer ive lived without any real harm coming to me from the dark has made it just... statistically less threatening I guess. But the fucking Vast...
Anyways. I recognize the name Simon Fairchild, but I cant say if its from am earlier listen, a relation to an actual historical figure, or simply that brief period where I fell down the Cassandra Clare rabbit hole
Exceptional Risk
Oh hey its Montauk again! Im really curious what the connection between the dark and gross water is, but im sure ill find out in time
Relisten tag: Peoples Church of the Host or whatever its called. I have a tag for it on a different post (oh god, the organization monsters got me XD)
Crusader
im gonna be honest i didnt really hear a word of this one :/ A historical, and the dude sounds like the the old theater cat from Cats. Unfortunately I think this one might actually important. oh well. maybe jon will make it make sense for me
Still Life
God, I am so tantalized by whatever the deal with Breacon and Hope is
-
Ooooh Jon! Breaking and Entering, look at you!
Pest Control
Ick, again. This one doesnt do much but connect some dots Ive already been connecting, but its good to know I dont have to go full stringboard and can afford to space out a little when listening
Children of The Night
Hey! always nice when im rewarded for going back and listening to ones id skipped :P
-
Jon!!! This man is on edge.
Oh, Martin, you sweet idiot. This is what I was vaguely remembering as being the thing he was hiding. Maybe I made it all the way through season 2? Well see
Personal Space
nope nope nope Nope NOPE
-
Damn. the Lucas family, the Fairchilds AND rhe peoples church of etc etc darkness? Fuuuuuck
-
Love the "they all look like stock photos". thats fucking hillarious
Trail rations
Oh yeah, if I had any doubt "meat" was a fear now i know for sure
-
*sigh* another conversation too quiet to hear. might be time to hunt down those transcripts wife used to read to me from
Recluse
Whoa Hilltop Road! The thick plottens! So Web/Spiders are definitely theyre own thing. Im thinking Bugs goes with fever somehow though? Either that or they definitely play well together. And Web and Fractal/Spirals get along well too.
-
I wonder why Agnes chose him to give the burning kiss to...
-
Jon. You are becoming a self fulfilling prophecy
